You both got your big TV breaks in your late thirties, though ten years apart. How did you negotiate the disparity between your careers before Nick landed Parks and Recreation?

M.M.: We’re very supportive of each other. I don’t know when I’ve been happier than when he got Parks. That was one of the most exciting things that ever happened.
N.O.: One great benefit of our relationship is that Megan has gone through everything a couple of chapters ahead of me, so there’s an easy student-master quality to it. When your wife is a legend of comedy, you have to be a huge jackass not to assume the student role.

Letter Of Note of the Day: After her husband passed away in 1989, mother-of-three Marianne — then 36 years old — wrote a letter to Kurt Vonnegut to thank him “for his books and his compassion.”

She didn’t expect a reply — but got one anyway.

“I have always wanted to share his kind words,” she says. “It meant, and still means, so much to me.”

It can’t be said often enough, “It is the woman who pays.” The miracle is that so many can and do somehow. I was in love (still am) with a widow with four kids (two not her own). She somehow raised them all on a teeny weeny salary. I told her one time, “I worry about women.” She said, “Don’t.”

Pumpkin Pie White Hot Chocolate

• 3 cups whole milk
• 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
• 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/4 teaspoon ginger
• 1/8 teaspoon cloves
• 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 4 ounces white chocolate (roughly chopped)
• pinch salt

1. Heat the milk, pumpkin puree, and spices in a sauce pan until it just starts to simmer and remove form heat.
2. Add the chocolate and stir until it has melted.
3. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and garnish with cinnamon.
